Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to develop new skills and confidence while giving something back to the community.

We provide a wide variety of opportunities to meet a range of personal objectives. For instance you may want to volunteer to:

  • Gain employment experience to help you into work
  • Consolidate skills to help you get back into work
  • Help others in your spare time
Whatever your goal we work hard to help you achieve it. To get you off to a good start we provide you with a thorough induction process. When you are working with us we will also invite you to take part in our staff training.

Volunteering at Vision 21

  • An opportunity to meet new people and make friends
  • A chance to learn new skills and participate in something you enjoy
  • An opportunity to put your existing skills to good use
  • Payment of your out of pocket expenses – travel and meals
  • Discount on Vision 21 products
  • Being a part of an ever growing, exciting organisation, working with people who really care
  • A chance to build upon your skills and confidence and achieve your goals – and enhance your CV and obtain references.

What can I do as a volunteer?

Vision 21 accepts volunteers in almost all of its projects.  The type of roles available will depend on the vocational project, as they all involve different activities and have different specialisms.  We usually find there are opportunities to suit everyone!  Whether you are looking to be involved in the ‘hands on’ vocational activity of the project, or more interested in supporting our students, volunteer roles can be adapted to suit you and your aspirations.

We have Volunteer Task Descriptions for each of our vocational projects, which detail the type of work involved and the qualities we are looking for in a potential volunteer.  These are available from the Volunteer Coordinator on request.

As well as our vocational projects, we also offer volunteer opportunities in other areas such as administration, marketing, fundraising and even caretaking!  Interest from professionals looking to offer their business expertise voluntarily in marketing, fundraising, finance, HR, planning etc is always welcome too.

Becoming a volunteer

If you are over 16 and have plenty of enthusiasm, energy and a willingness to help people with a learning need, then we would love to hear from you!  Take a look at our projects and think about which you would most like to help with. When you are ready we need you to send us a completed volunteer application form.
You can volunteer for as many or as few hours as you wish – arrangements can be made to fit around your other commitments.  Don’t worry if you don’t have any prior experience – full training and guidance will be given.

Having a disability or medical condition should not prevent you from volunteering with us.  Due to the nature of our work, we require all staff to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check – having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with Vision 21 but it will depend on the circumstances and background of the offence(s).

If you would like to apply to volunteer at Vision 21 or if you would like further information, then please contact Jamie Harris the personnel and Volunteering Officer for further details:
