Oaks Garden Nursery
The Oaks is a working garden centre selling competitively priced products, including:
- bedding and other outdoor plants
- garden furniture
- general gardening products
- ready prepared hanging baskets.
Housed in a large poly-tunnel The Oaks is the ideal environment for students to learn valuable skills. Supporting them are staff and other students who are specialists in horticulture. They help students realise their potential through practical tasks and accreditations.
Training and accreditation
Accreditation is offered in the NPTC City and Guilds Skills for Working Life at Entry Level 2 & 3.
Those who may benefit start with some initial ‘taster’ sessions. If these go well students can attend The Oaks for one or two days per week, occasionally more if appropriate. Attendance continues for a period of two or sometimes three years.
An Individual Training Plan (ITP) is developed for each student, this includes skills such as:
- pruning a shrub or tree
- preparing and using mulch
- basic retail skills
- identifying comment weeds, pest and insects
- sowing seeds and picking out seedlings.
Opening times
We are open to the public 9am-4pm weekdays.
Extended opening during April, May and June from 9am-5pm with a late night Thursdays until 7pm.
