Nibblets, Gegin Fach, Rookwood and Fieldway Kitchen

We offer opportunities at a range of venues for students to develop catering skills. Most of the projects also develop students’ retail skills.

Nibblets Pantry

Nibblets Pantry is a well-liked commercial food take-away serving customers in the heart of a Cardiff suburb. The shop also has some space for customers to sit down and enjoy our students’ hospitality while they indulge in food such as:

baguettes
salads
seasonal hot meals.

Nibblets also provides a buffet service – if you need to cater for a group of people contact us for information on menus and prices.

Fieldway Kitchen

Based at our head office Fieldway Kitchen prepares students for our commercial projects. The Kitchen trains those with no prior experience of working with food, supporting them to reach Basic Food Hygiene standard.

Gegin Fach

Gegin Fach is a bustling café based at the Sbectrwm Community Centre in Fairwater. Services include:

salads
baguettes
buffets.

A La Carte

Based at Rookwood Hospital A La Carte accommodates around three students per day providing a valuable service to patients and staff.

Training and accreditation

There are a range of options to match the range of catering venues.

At Nibblets students can have initial ‘taster’ days to see whether the opportunity suits them. If these go well students can attend Nibblets for one or two days per week, occasionally more if appropriate. Attendance continues for a period of two or sometimes three years.

An Individual Training Plan (ITP) is developed for each student, this includes skills such as:

preparing meats, vegetables and fruits for cooking
presenting and serving food
cleaning the kitchen and kitchen equipment
food hygiene
retail.
