The gift shop also sells bought in fair-trade gifts & gift wrap as well as craft supplies.
The shop is friendly and supportive, providing students an ideal opportunity to develop confidence in retail skills. We encourage students to think for themselves, to use the till, to handle money and to communicate with, and serve customers who come into the shop.
We will work with students to develop an Individual Training Plan (ITP) this could include skills such as:
Students in the Vision 21 Gift Shop are also able to work towards nationally recognised Agored Cymru credit based learning certificates in retail and related skills.
The training at The Vision 21 Gift Shop also delivers the Vision 21 Soft Skills Personal Development programme. In addition to developing retail and card making skills the training focuses on developing confidence, communication skills, self care and presentation, working as part of a team, motivation, timekeeping, behaviour and reliability amongst others.
Following satisfactory completion of the referral process the student will undergo an induction to Vision 21 after which a ‘taster’ day will be offered to see whether the opportunity suits them. If this goes well students can attend the Vision 21 Gift Shop for one or two days per week, occasionally more if appropriate, for an agreed time scale which will be reviewed regularly.
For more information on our referral process please see our referral page.
Students in the Gift Shop receive a Health and Safety induction including Risk Assessments, Manual Handling and Fire Safety Awareness. Students can also be referred to our TAM project for additional life skills, employment and independent living guidance as appropriate.
