Gegin Fach is a bustling café located in the Sbectrwm Community Enterprise Centre. The training offers opportunities for students to develop catering skills as well as retail skills in a real work setting. The next logical step for students following their work placement at Gegin Fach Café is paid employment.

Gegin Fach is very popular with local residents and the many users of the Sbectrwm Centre as well as people who visit the building to attend classes or spend time in the Community Garden.
Gegin Fach serves a range of salads, freshly made sandwiches, baguettes, jacket potatoes with a selection of fillings and soup of the day. It also serves freshly baked cakes, afternoon teas, cream teas and ice cream.

The training in Gegin Fach encourages students to develop both social and customer care skills, at the same time as providing a service to the community. An Individual Training Plan (ITP) is developed for each student, which includes skills such as:
Students at Gegin Fach are able to undertake Agored Cymru accredited training in catering and related skills. They also learn about basic food hygiene and are encouraged to undertake their basic food hygiene certificate when ready to do so.
The training at Gegin Fach also delivers the Vision 21 soft skills development programme. In addition to developing practical catering skills the training focuses on developing confidence, communication skills, self care and presentation, working as part of a team, motivation, timekeeping, behaviour and reliability amongst others.
Following satisfactory completion of the referral process the student will undergo an induction to Vision 21 after which a ‘taster’ day will be offered to see whether the opportunity suits them. If this goes well students can attend Gegin Fach for one or two days per week, occasionally more if appropriate, for an agreed time scale which will be reviewed regularly.
For more information on our referral process please see our referral page.
Students at Gegin Fach receive a health and safety induction including, manual handling, risk assessment and fire safety awareness. Students can also be referred to our TAM project for additional life skills, employment and independent living guidance as appropriate.

Gegin Fach is one of the providers of the Vision 21 buffet service. If you need to cater for a group of people contact Gegin Fach direct for information on menus and prices.
