Our Information Communication Technology (ICT) facility provides a well equipped, air conditioned environment, focusing not only on developing students’ ICT skills but also social skills
Every student has an individually designed learning plan, developed after consultation with the student and usually involves working towards Agored Cymru accredited certificates. During a typical day in the ICT suite, students work all morning on their individual work until lunchtime. After lunch, all the students participate in a daily interactive class incorporating the use of hand held technology. This underpins and encourages both teamwork and confidence building. Topics covered in the afternoon sessions have included basic literacy, numeracy including dealing with money, sign language, Welsh Culture and many other interesting subjects.
Students learn how to use a computer to do lots of different jobs such as writing letters and working with pictures.

Our ICT training focuses on essential computer basics, including:
The ICT suite offers Agored Cymru accreditation in all of the above subjects. OCN units are attained when a student produces sufficient evidence to prove competence in a particular skill. There are no formal examinations involved.
Students are also encouraged to develop office skills by helping with tasks such as:
The training at ICT also delivers the Vision 21 soft skills development programme. The training focuses on developing confidence, communication skills, self care and presentation, working as part of a team, motivation, timekeeping, behaviour and reliability amongst others.
Following satisfactory completion of the referral process the student will undergo an induction to Vision 21 after which a ‘taster’ day will be offered to see whether the opportunity suits them. If this goes well students can attend ICT for one or two days per week, occasionally more if appropriate, for an agreed time scale which will be reviewed regularly.
For more information on our referral process please see our referral page.
In addition all students in ICT receive a health and safety induction including safe use of computers, manual handling, risk assessment and fire safety awareness. Students can also be referred to our TAM (Training and Mentoring) project for additional life skills, employment and independent living guidance as appropriate.
