Vision 21 is a registered charity based in Cardiff offering people with learning needs the opportunity to undertake vocational training with a view to employment.

In November 2008, Vision 21 will be celebrating 21 years of providing quality training to students with learning needs in South East Wales.


Vocational Training

We have projects located in Cardiff, Newport and the Vale of Glamorgan in which we provide a wide range of training, including:

  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Retail
  • Woodworking
  • Horticulture
  • Catering
  • Ceramics
  • Card making
  • Training and Mentoring

Transition Opportunities

Throughout its 21 years Vision 21 has also provided important transition opportunities for young people with learning needs to help them to make effective transitions from childhood to adulthood. It has built close links with special schools and partnerships with local colleges to enable this to happen.

Summer Scheme

Over the past 5 years we have been able to offer dedicated Summer Scheme opportunities to school age students throughout the summer months. We have been successful in gaining funding to provide unique free work experience opportunities for children and young people across our projects during the school holiday period. This has not only provided positive, productive activities for the students involved, but also helped to fill the long summer gap, with its traditional lack of service provision. We want students to get the most from their time with us, to help achieve this by:

  • Ensuring training is tailored to individual needs
  • Providing realistic and practical work settings
  • Small group training (sometimes one to one when required)
  • Offering nationally recognized qualifications
  • Employing qualified and experienced staff
  • Being committed to quality – We are an Investor in People and we are working towards the Investing in Volunteer’s accreditation

We also place a strong emphasis on Child and Adult protection as well as positive behaviour management.

Collaborations

  • Vision 21 works continuously with a variety of local authorities throughout Wales to develop innovative and inclusive emerging social enterprises. We aim to provide increasing ranges of options for lifelong learning and employment for people with learning needs.
  • We work with the young people’s partnership framework to offer increased options for student’s transition from school to the world of work.
  • We work in conjunction with the NHS and the University Hospital for Wales and the University of Glamorgan to provide training placements for student nurses, genetic counselling students, occupational therapy students and social work students to provide students with positive models and valuable disability placement experience.
